Sai Message for Christmas

Where there is love, there is no room for hatred. Do not be envious of anyone. When this evil quality appears, love takes to flight. A pure heart is the abode of love. Where there is purity, there is unity. Unity leads to divinity.

Today, purity is absent. How, then, do you realize Divinity? You must offer everything to God without any desire. Dedicate your all to God. This was the teaching of Jesus. He considered everything as an offering to God.

When he was being nailed on the cross, people around were weeping. At that moment,an ethereal voice declared, "All are one, My dear Son! Be alike to everyone."

Jesus declared, "Death is the dress of life." Just as we change our clothes, so we change our bodies. The bodies are vestures (for the indwelling Spirit). Hence, bodies should be regarded as mere vestures. We should not worry about the body.

How many heed such sayings? You must learn to lead ideal lives. That is the right way to observe Christ's birthday. Few care to observe the ideals of the great teachers.

Christ was the victim of envious persons who were opposed to His teachings and who leveled accusations against Him. Devotees of God should not mind the criticisms of envious persons. All good people have to face such troubles. They should treat everything as meant for their good.

**I am seizing this opportunity to wish all the Sai Devotees a Merry Christmas and a happy new year 2008!!!

Who is Eswarama?

Easwaramma Day falls on 6th of May and this Day is celebrated by Sri Sathya Sewa Organizations all over the world in the memory of Divine Mother Easwaramma who led exemplary life and set great ideals to the world. Many programmes for the welfare of the poor and needy are organized on this Day.

Shri Kondamma Raju, the grand-father of Sri Sathya Sai Baba's physical body headed the Ratnakar family of Bhardwaja Gotra that lived in a tiny village of Puttaparthi (formerly known as Golpalli, village of cows, cow-herds, sweet water) situated on the Banks of River Chittravathi in Andhra Pradesh. He led saintly life of pretty long sojourn of 116 years and had two sons, Shri Pedda Venkamma Raju and Shri Chinna Venkamma Raju. Shri Pedda Venkamma Raju was married to a simple and serene girl Namagiriamma of a very poor family who had no schooling. After her marriage, Shri Kondamma Raju re-named his daughter-in-law as Easwaramma for she was to be the mother of Easwara as prophecied by this revered Guru Venkavadhoota.

Easwarama, a pious soul, who had installed Eternal Lord Narayana in her heart, was always engrossed in spiritual pursuits. After the devout couple had already a son and two daughters, Mother Easwaramma deeply aspired for one more son. To realize her wish, she undertook vow and practiced severe austerities. Imbued in spiritual splendour, she often experience the presence of gods and goddesses around her and glimpsed unique auras of unseen beings.

Narayana too had opted to incarnate in Puttaparthi and chosen the parenting of Shri Pedda Venkamma Raju and Smt. Easwaramma whose merits of past several births had borne fruit.

Smt. Lakshamma, Easwaramma's mother-in-law, was equally an ardent devotee of Sathyanarayana. She also yearned for one more grand-son. Smt. Easwaramma revealed to her family members that her mother-in-law had narrated her.

"She had dreamt of sathyanarayana dev and she cautioned me that I should not be frightened if something happens to me through the will of God. That morning when I was at the well drawing water, a big ball of blue light came rolling towards me and I fainted and fell. I felt it glided into me."

Therefore, Bhagwan Sri Sathya Sai Baba was not begotten. His incarnation was Pravesa (An entrance) and not a Prasava (encience).

It was on Monday/Tuesday night of 23rd November, 1926, that Smt. Lakshamma, mother-in-law of Smt. Easwaramma, was performing Satyanarayana Puja at the village priest's house from 4 A.M. onwards. Inspite of calling her back to rush home as the delivery of her daughter-in-law neared, she returned on conclusion of Puja. She gave 'prasad' to Easwaramma who relished it. And the Divine Child was born at 5:06 A.M. in Ardara Nakshtra (the regoining star). The Child was named Sathyanarayana.

Mother Easwaramma was embodiment of nobility, benevolence and sacrifice. She loved children very much and guided them on the virtuous path. She always endeavoured to ameliorate the sufferings of down-trodden. She never asked Swami for anything for herself. She played significant role in the task of ushering in a new Era for humanity. Her main objective in life was welfare of the society.

One day, holding his both hands, the great Mother Easwaramma pleaded to Swami to construct a small hospital as she could not withstand the sufferings of sick particularly the children. It was built. Puttaparthi has now Sri Sathya Sai Super Speciality Hospital besides a General Hospital. A Super-Speciality Hospital has also been built by Swami at White-field Bangalore. Millions of patients have been receiving best medical treatment and medicines free of any charge.

After some time, Mother approached Swami to build a school in the village. It was built and she was delighted to visit it and shower her love and blessings on the children. Puttaparthi is a Deemed University now and provides quality education upto Post-Graduate level including professional courses like MBA, MFM and M Tech. free of any charge. Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning at Puttaparthi has Prasanthi Nilayam, Anantapur and Brindaban (White-field) Bangalore Campuses.

Her next wish to provide drinking water to the village which was also fulfilled. Swami provided hundreds of crores of rupees for the massive drinking water projects and thus alleviated the sufferings of millions of drought-hit population of human beings and animals.

Mother Easwaramma had sudden and sacred end at Bangalore at 7 P.M. on 6th May, 1972, while sitting in Verandah. She loudly called "Swami, Swami Swami" thrice. Swami responded saying "Coming, Coming" and she breathed her last.

How to offer food to God

How to offer food to God?

It is helpful if one has an altar already set up somewhere in your home, apartment or dorm. On this altar should be either a sacred image or a picture of God in any of His sacred forms. In addition, you can include images of your guru, saints, or other gods or godess on your altar - Durga, Ganesha, Sarasvati, etc. Images of God, however, should be the central focal-point of any altar used for meditation. If you don’t have an altar, then placing a simple image of God somewhere special will do.

When the food is ready, take a sampling of each preparation, along with a glass or cup of water, and place them all on a special plate that is used only for offering food to God. This plate must never be used for any other purpose than offering food in Prasada Meditation. Place the plate of food before the sacred image. Offer a little incense to God. Then, in a meditative and devotional state of mind, sit with eyes closed in meditation and recite several sacred mantras. And request the Lord to accept your offering. After you have offered the food in this way, the food that you have cooked is now sanctified and considered to be prasada, food transformed into the grace of God. By partaking in such food, we show our devotion to God, and thus make spiritual advancement. The food on the the plate should be re-merged into the food in the pots. Having thanked the Lord for accepting your offering, the prasada can now be eaten. The food should also be eaten with meditative awareness. While eating the prasada, please always be conscious and aware that you are partaking in the special grace of God. Eat with reverence, and enjoy!

Sai Baba thoughts on Meat Eating

What About Meat?

In spiritual endeavors there can be no stability and no concentration when meat is eaten. As the food, so is the mind. If one partakes of meat, one will have animal thoughts. For example, if the mutton of sheep is eaten, you must ask yourself, "What is the quality of the sheep?" They only follow, follow, follow. If you eat mutton, you lose discrimination. If you eat pork, you will develop the quality of the pig, i.e. arrogance. These things not only damage our thoughts, but they amount to violence. It is a sin to kill the animal. You may reply that an animal was killed by the butcher. That is incorrect; it is only because you are eating them that the animals are being killed. If you stop eating animals, then no one will butcher them to sell in the market. Thus, sin is committed by the one who eats as well as the one who kills. Because of this incorrect type of food, we lose human qualities and acquire animal qualities.

Sai Message

Thought Of the Day

Thought of the Day

Grasp as the bow the great weapon furnished by the Upanishads, and fix in it an arrow sharpened by meditation. Draw it with the mind concentrated on Brahman (Godhead), and hit the target, the immortal Brahman without losing aim. Pranava (the sound of 'Om') is the bow, Atma (soul) is the arrow, Brahman is the target. So, the Sadhaka (spiritual aspirant) must, like the expert archer, be unaffected by things that agitate the mind. He should pay one-pointed attention to the target. Then, he becomes the thing meditated upon.

"If there is righteousness in the heart, there will be beauty in the character;
If there is beauty in the character, there will be harmony in the home;
If there is harmony in the home, there will be order in the nation;
When there is order in the nation, there will be peace in the world."

"Politics without principles, education without character, science without humanity and commerce without morality are not only useless but positively dangerous."

"In your words, thoughts and deeds, there should be unity."

Who is Shirdi Baba?

Sirdi Baba was a celibate saint who lived by the begging bowl. He constantly remembered God and enjoyed happiness in solitude. The most important thing in his divine personality that attracted all, was the light in his eyes. The divine Bliss of becoming one with God emerged through his eyes. These two lustrous objects in his body were the source of inspiration, care, mercy and ‘Mukti (illumination) for all those who surrendered to him. Baba saw no difference in caste or people.

Baba disliked honour (social status) which to him was only a need of the ego. Baba would accept any small thing offered with love and devotion but if the same was offered with pride, he would reject it. Baba said, If you want anything, beg of the Lord, leave worldly honour. He himself was very humble.

Using simple stories and clothing great truths in simple parables as did Jesus Christ, Baba was able to create a pyramid of perceptions in the listener – his words were always pregnant with meaning and never hollow. He gave varied instructions to many, according to their requirements, in both worldly and spiritual matters and used different methods to instruct devotees. However, he did not like arguments or discussion. His grace brought on a magnetic power of attraction which drew a devotees mind in the desired direction.

In 1886 AD, in a well recorded incident, Baba’s soul left his body for three full days. In this period, both his breathing and his pulse stopped, after which he came back to life. Baba had all the eight Siddhis (spiritual powers) at his command. For example, he had complete control over nature and elements and is known to have cured many incurable diseases by his touch and mere glance. He had a spontaneous knowledge of diverse religious scriptures and languages. He never practiced nor craved for these Siddhis; they came to him naturally, as a result of his perfection.

Gayatri Mantra

OM BHUR BHUVAH SUVAHA
TAT SAVITUR VARENYAM
BHARGO DEVASYA DHEEMAHI
DHIYO YO NAH PRACHODAYAT

We meditate upon the glorious splendor ofthe Vivifier Divine.May He Himself illumine our minds!

CHANTING OF GAYATRI

When an individual is first born from the mother's womb, this is the natural type of birth. This is the natural state. This is the first birth as such. After you have been given the Gayatri Manthra, the dawn of a second birth emerges in your life. What is this Gayatri Mantra? It is the very quintessence of the Vedas. Verily it is the mother of the Vedas. The meaning of the syllable "Ga" is Jiva.

Gayatri is that which protects and fosters all life forms. You must realise therefore that on being given this Gayatri Manthra, you have been given a second birth. When you start chanting this Manthra in conformity with certain rules and code of conduct, you will certainly be able to reach a state in fulfillment of this Manthra.

You arrive at a new stage, the third stage, which is called the Vipra. At this stage you begin to chant the Vedas. Even as you try and understand and chant the Manthras in the Vedas, you must realise their significance end start practicing the underlying principle and thus live the Vedas every second of your life. In this way you will certainly succeed in attaining Brahma.

It is only when you understand this Brahma Thathwa and perform your actions in accordance with this understanding can one be called a Brahmana. It is not by birth alone that one becomes a Brahmana. It is necessary that one's actions should correspond to this understanding. We really deserve to be called a Brahmana only when we understand the Brahma Thathwa.

20 Sai Sayings to be practiced in daily life

5. Money comes and goes; but morality comes and grows!

6. Time consumes everyone…..So do not waste time. Time wasted is life wasted.

7. The past is beyond recovery. We are not sure of the future. The given moment is the right time. Do not delay; do right action.

Who is Sai Baba?

Sri Satya Sai Baba was born Satyanarayan Raju in 1926 in the village of Puttaparthi, Andra Pradesh, India. At the age of 14 he had a series of strange experiences, which his family and others believed at the time to be demonic possession. Soon after one of these, Satyanarayan asserted that the spirit of a guru known as Sai Baba of Shirdi, Maharashtra, who had died more than twenty years earlier, had come into him. Shirdi Sai Baba (1856 –1918) was admired in his lifetime for his austere lifestyle and particularly for the miracles that were attributed to him.

During the later period of his life, he claimed to be God and was venerated as such by his followers. Satyanarayan, who appropriated the name Satya Sai Baba, likewise claims to be God. In support of his claim, Satyanarayan began early on to work the ‘miracles’ for which he has since become renowned and which have led to a growing number of followers.
The ‘miracles’ include materializing sugar candy, flowers, vibhuti (sacred ash) and other presents for his devotees. They also include healing the sick and knowing the thoughts of his disciples whatever be the distance between them. His followers even claim that Sai Baba has restored two dead men to life.

These ‘miracles’ are adduced as proof of Sai Baba’s divinity and specifically of his ability to create out of nothing. He says: "It is beyond you to know how or why I create things.…the objects that I create, I create them by My Will, the same way I created the universe." Sai Baba claims to be a full avatar or ‘incarnation’ of God, greater than Jesus and founders of the world religions. In his own words: "Buddha, Christ, Mohammed and others were not avatars. They had some divine power... My power is infinite."

Despite his claim to divinity and to infinite power, Sai Baba maintains that he did not come on earth to establish a religion. Rather he sees his mission as being to restore the dharma – the proper and original inner transformation which is the heart and purpose of all genuine religion. As an expression of his recognition of on-going role of existing religious traditions, his logo contains the symbols of Cross, Crescent and Star, Star of David as well as the Hindu Aum and the Buddhist Wheel.

Satya Sai Baba has prophesied that he will leave his present body in the year 2022, when he would be 96 years of age. But he will immediately be reborn for a third time as an avatar named Prema Sai Baba. He has specified that this final appearance will take place in the Mandya district of Karnataka State.
